The ground floor of an historical palace in downtown Bologna houses a practice for two doctors. The waiting room, giving access to the two personal studios, should be configured as a unique space to be divided though, in case of necessity, obtaining two autonomous offices, each one with independent entrance, wardrobe, toilet and anteroom.
The studied solution is centred on a thickening of the entrance wall that absorbs and hides all of the service functions making the remaining surface a tidy and minimal waiting environment.
The volume, only 2,70 m. high in order not to ruin the perception of the original vaulted ceiling, as seen in plan is thiner at apexes and generates a feeble bottleneck at the centre of the space. From the angle in the maximum thickness point a sliding wall can be extracted, splitting the room in two when needed.
