Renovation of an appartment
Bologna, Italy
We are almost at the top of one of ‘The Towes’ in via Zago, a particularly innovative complex from a design point of view, designed in 1980 in Bologna by the architect Enzo Zacchiroli. Here, the MIRO architects studio was responsible for the renovation of an apartment, before it was an office, now redesigned to satisfy the needs of a young family.
The house is arrange on a single level and is characterized by large French windows that overlook the city and flood the spaces with natural light.
The essentiality that distinguishes the external reinforced concrete structure has been transposed inside by choosing neutral colours, simple and linear materials and furnishings.
The entrance opens directly onto the kitchen. Almost entirely concealed, it is composed of a large monolithic peninsula in Fenix castoro finish and a freestanding element containing the fridge and pantry. The sink is hidden from view by a mirror element. On the opposite wall, a storage unit in canaletto walnut, designed by MIRO architects in collaboration with Paolo Russo Design, covers the entire wall and houses appliances, accessories and shelves, together with the closet and laundry.
The adjacent living area features a relaxation area with sofa, armchair and full-wall Kriptonite bookcase, with a chest of drawers in canaletto walnut also made to measure, and a convivial area dominated by the large dining table which overlooks the main balcony from which you can see the city and the hills.
The rooms are illuminated by the black Pista Track track system by Modular, with spotlights in a champagne-coloured finish which give a warm light suitable for the reception purpose of the spaces.
The living area and sleeping area are divided by a mirrored sliding door, designed to broaden the perception of the rooms.
Beyond the door, the corridor leading to the most intimate area of the house was exploited by inserting a large wooden storage unit, custom-made and matching the walls.
On the equipped side there are two bathrooms, both with vanity units and custom-made showers. The protagonist of the rooms is the combination of stoneware and Fenix, used on the walls and ceiling, in Verde Comodoro in the first bathroom and in Rosso Askaja in the second.
The two front rooms house the single bedroom and a study. After all, the master bedroom, served as a balcony like all the other rooms, takes full advantage of the large niche in front of the bed, where a spacious, custom-designed, full-height wardrobe is positioned.
To create continuity between the various rooms of the house, the same floor was chosen: the Pedra Azul by Ceramiche Refin which draws inspiration from an Iberian stone of limestone origin and creates a slightly wavy graphic, in which light areas and dark shades alternate in a accurate balance of shapes.
