An old former mechanic workshop on the ground floor of a building on the outskirts of Bologna is transformed into a loft. The typical workshop space is reshaped through the creation of a volume that identifies new spaces and gives life to new perspectives. All the service spaces (two bathrooms, a closet, a pantry) are hidden behind this sculptural gesture: a 90-degree corner, inclined respect to the structural grid, visually separates the living area from the sleeping area. The full height doors on the volume were made with a craftsman and projected to disappear from view (when closed) and to leave the volume as linear and clean as possible. two steps mark the passage from the living room to the sleeping area. The project is based on the reconversion of space taking care to preserve its industrial soul through the reproduction of the typical profile of the workshops windows. The reduced overall dimensions of the frames ensure maximum natural light, while ensuring excellent thermal performance.Una vecchia officina meccanica al piano terra di un edificio nella prima periferia di Bologna viene trasformata in un'abitazione privata open space. Lo spazio tipico dell'officina è rimodellato attraverso la creazione di un volume che individua nuovi ambienti e da vita a nuove prospettive. Tutti gli spazi di servizio (due bagni, un ripostiglio, una dispensa) sono nascosti dietro questo gesto scultoreo: un angolo di 90 gradi, inclinato rispetto alla griglia strutturale, separa visivamente la zona giorno dalla zona notte. Le aperture a tutta altezza sul volume sono state realizzate con un artigiano e studiate in modo da poter scomparire alla vista (quando chiuse) e lasciare così il volume più lineare e pulito possibile. Attraverso un cambio di quota si individua il passaggio dall’ambiente destinato al soggiorno a quello adibito a zona notte. Il progetto si basa sulla riconversione dello spazio avendo cura di conservare le sue caratteristiche industriali attraverso la riproposizione di infissi con un sistema derivante dal profilo ferrofinestra tipico delle officine. I ridotti ingombri dei telai permettono di garantire il massimo della luce naturale, assicurando allo stesso tempo ottime prestazioni termiche.
