Narvik is a small town in the far north of Norway aiming to emancipate from its monotonous life as cargo port for the close Swedish iron mines. The “Forum” object of the competition is intended to be a common house for startups and university research groups promoting the diversification of the local business. In our entry, one of the buildings already present on the project site has been preserved and reconfigured to house the student dorm and some offices of the municipality to be relocated. The remaining functions, dedicated to the showcasing of research and innovative business, have been envisioned as an archipelago of glazed boxes distributed in a wide subterranean hall illuminated from above by iconic skylights. Above, a public terrace openly accessible from the main road; beneath, a wide event hall, working as indoor “piazza” in the arctic winters, surrounded by the vibrant activities of the 2.0 Narvik.Narvik è una cittadina nell’estremo nord della Norvegia che aspira ad emanciparsi dalla sua monotona vocazione di porto logistico per le vicine miniere di ferro svedesi. Il “Forum” oggetto del concorso dovrebbe diventare uno spazio condiviso per startups e gruppi di ricerca universitari con l’obbiettivo di promuovere la pluralità dell’iniziativa imprenditoriale locale. Nella nostra proposta il più massiccio degli edifici preesistenti viene preservato e riconfigurato per ospitare lo studentato e alcuni uffici municipali da ricollocare. Le funzioni restanti, interpreti della ricerca e dell’innovazione, sono state immaginate come un arcipelago di ambienti trasparenti distribuiti in un basto spazio ipogeo illuminato da iconici lucernari. Al livello superiore si viene così a generare una terrazza accessibile dalla strada pubblica antistante, mentre al livello inferiore le frementi iniziative della Narvik 2.0 si raccolgono intorno a una vasta e luminosa piazza coperta viva e attiva anche durante l’inverno artico.
