After the end of its historical foundry activity, the municipality of Tubize planned a new quarter on the huge footprint of the demolished steelwork and launched a competition for the new business and commercial hub in the northern corner of the area acting as pivot among the two existing settlements and the planned new one. The project is a sequence of huge halls recalling the industrial buildings of the XIX century that, cut out by the silhouette of the lot in its perimeter, generates varied façades depending on the interfaced landscape. Under the vaults, stacks of freely configurable open space floors house startups, workshops and commercial activities. The main hall though shelters a pedestrian boulevard that links with underpasses the old village on the northwestern edge and the new quarter on the southern side. And along the path it distributes the internal activities intersecting the courts scattered on the complex.Nell’ambito del piano di un nuovo quartiere residenziale sul sedime delle sue storiche acciaierie, la municipalità di Tubize ha lanciato il concorso per un comparto commerciale e direzionale nell’isolato all’apice nord dell’ex area siderurgica che dovrà agire come perno fra due insediamenti esistenti e il nuovo in via di realizzazione. Il progetto è una sequenza di grandi campate riecheggianti gli edifici industriali della fine del XIX secolo che, ritagliata lungo il suo perimetro dalla conformazione del lotto genera facciate variate adeguate al paesaggio antistante. Sotto le volte sono alloggiati livelli open space liberamente configurabili per ospitare startups, laboratori e attività commerciali. Solo la campata centrale va a coprire un boulevard pedonale che collega la vecchia Tubize con il nuovo quartiere tramite due sottopassaggi, uno alla ferrovia a nord-ovest e l’altro alla strada carrabile a sud. L’ampio percorso coperto interseca le corti interne del complesso distribuendo l’accesso alle diverse attività.
