A proto-modernist building in the area of the neglected market of the city of Ferrara will house the new Informative Centre of the Municipality on the Urban transformations and the new seat of the architect’s chamber. The main issues inherited by the previous configuration are the absence of an elevator, the inadequate size of the inner staircase and the uncomfortable entrance. We interpreted this handicaps as an opportunity and, avoiding demolitions inside the old block, we created a brand new stair and lift block aside acting as a translucent rear illuminated Landmark. The glazed volume connecting the old and new part is the new attractive entrance of the complex. The settings in the main hall is a huge map of the city on the floor, with mobile zoom-tables describing new projects and transformations in an immediate, touchable, interactive way.Una palazzina protomodernista nell’area dell’ex mercato ortofrutticolo ospiterà il futuro Urban Center di Ferrara e la nuova sede dell’ordine architetti. I problemi ereditati dall’edificio sono l’assenza di un ascensore, l’inadeguatezza delle scale e lo scomodo ingresso non agibile a tutti. Abbiamo interpretato questi handicaps come una risorsa e, evitando demolizioni interne, abbiamo creato un nuovo corpo scale-ascensore traslucido a lato della palazzina che agirà come landmark sulla scena urbana. Il corpo vetrato che connette vecchio e nuovo diviene quindi l’ingresso principale, evidente e accessibile a tutti. L’allestimento della sala principale dell’Urban Center è una grande mappa della città a pavimento popolata da tavolini-zoom riposizionabili su cui si collocano modelli a scala maggiorata delle trasformazioni in atto. Un modo semplice, diretto e universalmente comprensibile per raccontare la città che cambia anche a chi non ha tempo o voglia di soffermarsi oltre.
